Book Launch Party

Portland author Doug Lain and Indie Press Night Shade Books will celebrate the release of Lain's groundbreaking short story collection, "Last Week's Apocalypse" at the book's launch party on Jan. 28, SATURDAY, 7 p.m., at the Northwest Neighborhood Cultural Center 1819 NW Everett Street. Publisher's Weekly calls "Last Week's Apocalypse" "an ambitiously postmodern [book] full of contemporary Winston Smiths." Craig Clarke of the Green Man Review raves, "These are stories Iım going to want to revisit again and again."

Lain, who will read selections from "Last Week's Apocalypse" will be joined by Benjamin Barnett of the band 'Kind Of Like Spitting,' whose music Willamette Week has described as "10 years of therapy wrapped into a beautifully tight minute-and-a-half package."

Featured speakers will include Mike Hastie of Veterans for Peace, talk show host Opio Sokoni, activist and photographer Bette Lee, and others.

The "Last Week's Apocalypse" launch is sponsored by Education WithOut Borders and proceeds from book sales at the event will go to EWOB's Books Not Bombs Project for Katrina Victims. THE EVENT IS FREE FOR ALL.
